The Loudoun Amateur Radio Group Of Northern Virginia & Its Radio Station K4LRG

K4LRG 2010 Field Day Operation
Station #2
CAPTAINS:  Jay Ives - KI4TXP   &  Rick Miller - AI1V
OPERATING   ON   75-PHONE   40-PHONE

The 2010 K4LRG Station #2 was again captained by Jay- KI4TXP and Rick - AI1V and as last year, was set to operate on 40 and 80-Meters Fone. This year it moved off the porch at WB5ODJ. Like Station #1, Rick's Elecraft K3 HF Transceiver was the heart of the station. improvements in the antennas were planned with the use of an AB-577 Antenna Mast for separate dipoles for each band. "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven" and operating on 80-Fone never happen. It might be that after Norm - AI2C suggested that they drop their 80-Meter dipole when they were complaining about 40-Meters being dead in the late afternoon that they were never ever able to get the 80-Fone antenna back up in the middle of the night. Anyway, they slugged it out on 40-Fone all night. Maybe, they thought the other two 80-Fone equipped station would fill in.

They stuck to 40-Fone and did have some nice runs including a 71 per hour at 2000 UTC. This station used a second position for computer logging and training of new operators. So, not everyone logged into N1MM as an operator. Maybe we should sign both in next year? The operators are to be congratulated:

         Rick Miller - AI1V
         Buddy Brewer - K4CJB
         Jim Stowers - K4FW
         Dave Putman - KE4S
         Jeff Slusher - KE5APC
         Earl Haussling - KF4UUX
         Jay Ives - KI4TXP
         Chris Fristad - KT9N
         Nancy Dluehosh - N1NCY

The overall count was down from the last two years (2008 2009) for Station #2 but did have a nice high for 40-Fone with 684 good QSOs.

The Rates

It took two hours to get in gear. Maybe there were just too many stations and no one hear anyone? Anyway, by 2000 UTC something happen and the rate jumped to a nice 71. This was the third best hourly rate for Station #2 since 2008. There is always that 1400 UTC peak; some refer to it as the church goers showing up. And, can you imagine sticking with it at 0700 and 0800 UTC for a couple dozen QSOs. Anyway, 2010 finished behind the 2008 and 2009 numbers but not by much.

In Summary: We are all proud of this effort. Many thanks to everyone who put the station together and operated.
