4-Year K4LRG Field Day Performance Study
Prepared by Norm Styer - AI2C - March 30, 2012

In an effort to focus the 2012 K4LRG Field Day Operation on improving antennas, station equipment and operating capabilities, this study examines the last four years of the K4LRG Field Day Operations. Many consider the 2008 Operation as a benchmark since we placed in the Top Ten among all classes. See report on rankings. Also, see 10-year report on 5A-VA Operations. Comparisons are made to that year. Links are provided to Space Weather Reports for each operating day so one can rule in or out solar conditions.

The logs for each year were analyzed with the aid of the EI8IC On-Line Log View Program. Twelve maps were created for each year. They illustrate the locations contacted. Some dots may represent more than one contact. The Rate Charts for each Band-Mode are included along with a link to the original station reports (2011 Stations Reports to be published). A photograph of the antenna used on each mode is shown. Finally, some analyses and comparisons are provided for each Band-Mode. Please note how the "Best Year of Operation" changes sometimes in the 2011 Operation Analysis.

I trust you may make some observations and conclusions that will be helpful to improving the 2012 K4LRG Field Day Operation. The 2012 K4LRG Field Day Committee is particularly interested in improving antenna performance, and selecting the best times to concentrate our best operators on specific bands and modes to maximize our performance. Please bring your ideas and suggestions to our Field Day Committee meetings and to the attention of our Station Captains. Remember we are looking for practical suggestions that offer the most improvement on individual Band-Mode performance. Thanks so very much. Best Regards, Norm Styer - AI2C.
