The Loudoun Amateur Radio Group Recognizes Special Support For 2008 K4LRG Field Day |
Jay Greeley - KI4UTB COMMENDATION: "For providing liaison with the Army National Guard who set up and tore-down a military shelter used to house five Field Day stations. This asset was critical to the success of Field Day." |
|
Luther Guise - K5NOB COMMENDATION: "For
providing a large military shelter and the labor and expertise to erect the structure and remove it at the end of the exercise. Special thanks to 1SG Christopher C. Howlett and Mr. Giles F.
Howell for their support. This contribution was a key factor in our success during this year's operation." |

Norm Styer - AI2C Presented Plaque In the Fall of 2006, with the encouragement and leadership of Bill Buchholz - K8SYH, a group of eleven members of the Loudoun Amateur Radio Group of Northern Virginia organized and executed a Field Day style operation in the October 2006 Pennsylvania QSO Party. For many years, Bill - K8SYH had operated as a portable station in the PAQP from a campground in the rare Somerset County; John Unger - W4AU had operated out-of-state from Virginia for many years; and Norm Styer - AI2C, operated /3 from his family farm in Berks County in 2004 part time. |
Someday, we'll all return for another fun operation. |
Originally, we thought it would be fun to mount a mini-M/M or M/2 operation from that same location in Somerset, but as interest was generated and it looked like we may have as many as a dozen operators, Norm - AI2C, generously offered to let us use his family farm in Berks for our 2006 PAQP operation. However, we were not going to have the luxury of just showing up and operating at a "real" M/M station. The only permanent antennas at Norm's farm are 40 and 80 meter dipoles. |
Norm Styer - AI2C |
Norm Styer - AI2C COMMENDATION: "For serving as Field Day Captain for 10 years, logging thousands of contacts for the club, chronicling ten years of Field Day operations on the club's web site, including write-up's, photos, site planning, operations plans, and in-depth analysis of logs. In addition, he has mentored and passed his vast amateur radio experience and knowledge on to many beginning & intermediate Field Day operators who are now operating at a higher level as a result of their association with him."

The Door Prizes
Jeff Slusher - KE5APC arranged for a super selection of varied and interesting
door prizes. This was a nice surprise for all. He even had a scheme for the Ladies to take home the Poinsettias table decorations. Buddy Brewer - K4CJB pulled some lucky numbers. Jeff, thanks
for a great job. |
