K4LRG 2010 Field Day Operation
VHF  -  SATCOM
CAPTAINS:  Frank Gentges - KØBRA  &  Bill Fenn - N4TS
OPERATING   ON   2-METERS FONE,  6-METERS FONE  &  SATCOM

Frank - K0BRA, Bill - N4TS, and others assembled a very fine VHF and SATCOM station. The antennas were impressive and this year they had an AB-577 Antenna Mast to improve the range on VHF. This was a real automated antenna system for SATCOM with both elevation and azimuth pointing controls. And, they were using a SATCOM tracking program to determine the best pointing and access times. They had a lot of patience waiting on the right moment but no cigar this year. The station's N1MM Logging Program was tied into the site's network. They added a very nice portable shelter for the station and had a nice equipment layout. Everything was battery powered.

Several LARG members and visitors tried their hand operating this fine station:

         Chris - KB3RUR
         Chris - W3CUM
         Bill - N4TS
         Frank - K0BRA
         Dave - KE4S
         Scott - W3CV

The station finished with 13 good QSOs on 6 & 2 Meters Fone.

The Rates

It wasn't for lack of effort that SATCOM evaded them this year. But they did find 6-Meters open and had 12 good QSOs. Plus one good one on 2-Meters. This was like the 15 QSOs in 2009 but less than the 31 in 2008 and well below the 109 QSO record in 2005.

In Summary: Our hats are off to all who helped assemble and operate.
