The Loudoun Amateur Radio Group Of Northern Virginia & Its Radio Station K4LRG

The 2010 Loudoun Amateur Radio Group's K4LRG Field Day Operation was our 17th annual event. Since 2001, we have operated in the 5A Class of the annual American Radio Relay League’s Field Day Operating Event. We know that Field Day is not a contest but it is an operating event; however, some of us can't help but push ourselves. We look for "long green runs" and many are reported to drive only counter clockwise. We try to balance this drive with the need to train, to practice, to bring on new operators, to show our communities that we might be able to help if the balloon ever goes up. The planning, the set-up and the operation is not much different from a "Just In Case" event. These Field Days make us all better operators. So the numbers count in many ways.
This year we again used N1MM Logging Program in a fully netted system among all stations. See the Computer Staging under the Plans tab above. With N1MM we know every operator and when they signed on and off. Thus we can construct accurate operator performance profiles. So, review these 45 charts and tables. They show us how we did. Who is getting better and who may need a little assistance. Can you find your operations and contributions. Be sure to visit "The K4LRG 2010 Field Day Performance Honor Roll" at the bottom of this section.
The 2010 operation grades out as one our best performances. The antenna physical plant was great and many new approaches were used to improve each station. Our hats are off to all the station captains and those who helped assemble everything on Friday evening. We thank all who added to these numbers. We trust we may learn from these and be ready for another great operation in 2011. Try to understand: "You gotta know when to hold'em and know when to fold them." Unless you are running at 40 or 50 per hour then you need to move, go ' search and pounce, check your equipment and antennas, or change operators. Bring your suggestions to our January 2011 K4LRG Field Day Committee organizational meeting.

Band - Mode Operations
"Hold'em When You're Hot !!!
There were some 30,000-plus active stations.
Were we where we should be?
We had three stations with 75-Fone antennas. What happen?

Performance Of Our Operators
We Had some super radio operators.
You don't always have a hot band, so you do what you can to keep the rates.
We trust you will recognize them!

The Low vs High Band Battle
The 20M - Fone Yagi at 50-feet, the 20M - CW Yagi at 60-feet, and the 15M Yagi at 70-feet really held their own. The AI2C designed and built 80-Meter Extended Double Zepp Antenna at 65-feet at Station 1 also kept us hot throughout the midnight hours.

The Best Of The Best Operators
Thirty-seven operators logged 3757 good QSOs at the K4LRG - AJ4EY/GOTA 2010 Field Day. Every contact is greatly appreciated. These special efforts are recognized. Here are our top performers. These sixteen operators averaged 6.92 hours of operating with an average hourly QSO rate of 31.59. Their "stay in the chair" approach accounted for 110.73 hours or 92.28% of the available 120 hours. Their logs account for 3638 QSOs or 96.83% of all good entries. We trust you will thank them all.
