The Mission
August 2000

The request for assistance from the Loudoun Chapter of the American Red Cross came in during July 2000.

The Group had just come off a very successful 39-operator ARRL Field Day Operation and had shown to the local Red Cross representatives who had visited the K4LRG Site in Hamilton that the LARG could operate under emergency field conditions.

So it was natural that the Group voted in July to support the American Red Cross operation. At that meeting our first Public Service Officer was also named by our President Ray Houff - K4AJA, and quickly Mark Gillam - N3GMW set out to organize and lead this support. Mark began with a sign up roster and Jay Greeley, the Red Cross Event Director and Jim Thomas, Chief Executive of the Loudoun Chapter briefed the LARG at it's August 19, 2000, meeting.
