The Loudoun Amateur Radio Group's K4LRG Station #2 40M & 80M Phone |

Station #2 Captain: Mark Johnson - W3ZI of Ashburn, VA. Mark
Johnson - W3ZI of Ashburn, VA. was the Captain of Station # 2 that
operated Phone on 40 and 80 Meters from a cool spot on the mansion's
front porch. Mark is a veteran CW operator but was willing to sacrifice
for the cause. His station is first class and included his Kenwood
TS-850 HF Transceiver with external speaker, and a gold plated mike.
His computer was a Gateway Pentium II Laptop that ran on a dediciated
12vdc deep cycle battery through a DC-DC 12-19 volt inverter. The
antenna was built by Charlie Preston - K4LJH and is the LARG's
Special 40 - 80 Meter Windom strung between trees in front of the
mansion. Funny comment heard:
"The only thing this station needed was an easy chair,
a pair of head phones, and a boom mic for next year if
we run a phone station from the "porch" given the activity through the
food kitchen. |
