MEETING LOCATION: The September 20, 2003, LARG meeting will be at 8:30 in the Leesburg Holy Trinity Lutheran church at 605 West Market Street. The church is located at the intersection of Market Street and Catoctin Circle on the west side of town. It is just east of the bypass. From the Bypass, take the Leesburg exit at the west end of town and the church is on the right just past the stoplight. Please enter through the door on the east side of the building where you will see both steps and a ramp by the door. September Club Meeting Plans - Denny, KF4TJI, will give a short report on the very successful LARG communications effort made for the 21st Annual Reston Century Bike Ride event. We should all be proud of the fine representation made by our club to help out during this event. Bill, WF1L, will bring us up-to-date on the Fall General Class training session being planned. We will have a J-pole antenna construction session for anyone interested in one of these 2-meter antennas right after the regular club meeting. Also, Larry, K3HE, will be bringing his Radio Shack FM antenna that is modified for 2-meter operation. Depending on Isabel's actual path, we may have a report on LARG's activity in response to this hurricane. Of course, we may not even be having the regular meeting if Isabel doesn't follow the weather service's plans correctly! Keep you 2-meter rigs on for the latest news. August Club Meeting Report - We discussed the latest improvements made to the LARG 70 cm repeater by Evan, KQ4CI. It seems that more and more hams are making use of this repeater, so be sure to have it programmed into your radio's memory.
Fall / Winter Contests - We are beginning to enter the
end-of-the-year contesting season, when the noisy summertime band conditions
improve and we can again think about hearing something other than static
crashes on 40 and 80 meters. Here are some of the contests coming up that
have club categories which LARG can enter; more details to come in the
next newsletter: Club News - Mark, ex-N3GMW, now K4MDG, not only has a neat new callsign, but also has a new QTH with plenty of room for antennas. Way to go, Mark! If you ask him, Gary, NC4S, will give you a report on the exciting LARG canoe trip made by some of your fellow hams down the Shenandoah recently. And if you see John, W4AU, smiling at the meeting, ask him about the new constellation that has entered his shack...
