The next LARG Club meeting will be on September 15, 2001, at 8:30 in the Conference-Training Room at the Leesburg Police Station on Plaza Street at 8:30 a.m. The facility is located on Plaza Street between East Market Street and Edwards Ferry Road. Talk-In is on 147.480 MHz. You can join other LARG members for breakfast (~7:30) before the meeting at the International House of Pancakes located in the Shopping Center with Walmart, just off of Rt. 15, north of Leesburg.

August Club Meeting Notes - Tom, WB3AKD, recapped the flight and eventual recovery of our Sky-Eye I balloon flight. Mark, N3GMW, reported on our successful participation in the Reston Century Bike Ride, where we provided communication for the Red Cross and ride organizers.

September Club Meeting Plans - LARG plans to have a tethered balloon (~500') launch immediately after the regular club meeting. We will attempt to launch a video camera with a UHF telemetry link. Contact Bob, W4POF, if you are interested in being involved with this activity. Exact details of the operation are still a bit sketchy as the newsletter is being written. Come to the club meeting or tune in to 147.480 Saturday morning.

Events - We have (and had) lots of activities going on this month and next:

September 9 - Norm, AI2C, organized an amateur radio demonstration at the "Flying Circus" near Warrenton as part of a Boy Scout event taking place there. The event was a great success with numerous other LARG members either helping out at the site or acting as contacts at their home QTH's for the Scouts to talk to. It was great fun, especially talking to the Girl Scouts at the event as well as the Boy Scouts. Both 40 meter SSB and 2 meter FM provided robust day-time links from the site back to Loudoun County.

September 20 - Our introductory Technician license class, organized by Bill, K8SYH, begins at the Balch Library in Leesburg at 7:00 p.m. The class will run through December 13 (it may not go that long as we can schedule longer meetings at Balch). The club has always supported a good training program and this is an excellent opportunity for those who have not taught before to get their feet wet.

October 13, 14 - Pennsylvania QSO Party. Please get on and give out a few QSO's to our friends to the north. Both Tom, WB3AKD, and Bill, K8SYH, will be in the Keystone state operating during this event, so be sure to look for them. Tom will be operating mobile from a number of counties; Bill will be portable again from a campsite in rare Somerset County. Take a look at http://www.qsl.net/narc/paqso.htm for more information about times and frequencies. Remember to tell the PA stations to get on and give out a few Q's in the VA QSO Party to reciprocate!

Club News - Don't forget to check in to our Sunday evening nets on 147.480 at 8:00 p.m. We have been having an excellent turnout and you can catch up on all the latest goings on in LARG.
