The next LARG Club Meeting will be on September 16, 2000, in the Conference-Training Room at the Leesburg Police Station on Plaza Street at 8:30 a.m. The facility is located on Plaza Street between East Market Street and Edwards Ferry Road. Talk-In is on 147.480 MHz. You can join other LARG members for breakfast (~7:30) before the meeting at the Bob Evans Restaurant located Leesburg Corner Shopping Center.

September LARG Meeting Plans - Bill, K8SYH, will present a short discussion of the upcoming Technician License training session that will be held starting 9/13/00. Tom, WB3AKD, will discuss the plans for our October balloon launch.

Club News - Congratulations to Mark, N3GMW, who successfully coordinated our club's communications support for the Reston Century 2000 Bike Club ride across Loudoun County to benefit the Loudoun Chapter of the American Red Cross on August 27. It was a long day for those who participated, and we all learned a lot about UHF / VHF cross band operations and the importance of HF communications even for "local" events. Well Done, guys and gals!!

Speaking of HF, a number of LARGers have been in contact on 20 meters with Denny, KF4TJI, and Carol, KF4TJJ, as they are making their way across the western U.S. Denny's 20 meter signal has been good copy back here in Loudoun, especially considering that he is using only a Ham Stick whip antenna. Check for him at 2130 EDST on 14.250 + or - depending on the QRM.

If you've noticed an improvement in the DX packet cluster signal from N4OHE, it's because Craig added an extra 20 feet to his tower.
