August Meeting News

Everyone was invited to bring in their favorite CW key, bug, or paddle and to give a short talk about how they got started with CW and how they overcame some of the hurdles about learning this new "language". The vote on the proposed amendments to the By-Laws of the LARG Constitution was postponed because the meeting did not have a quorum in attendance. Nancy, KE4RTP, gave a very interesting presentation, about the YL Convention she attended on the Queen Mary this summer in California. The club also approve an expenditure of $70 for having Pete, KF4HCW, set up a www page exclusively for LARG as k4lrg.org. The club approved the proposed budget for our balloon flights: $150 for the October 1999 launch and $300 for two launches to take place in 2000. The Oct. 2 launch date is still a go!!

September LARG Meeting Plans

The featured event at our September Meeting will be a Fox Hunt organized by the balloon committee. This activity will give us a good opportunity to test our skills for recovering the instrument package from out next balloon launch. Our "fox" will be in motion and we will use some fixed observers, just as if we were trying to track a balloon instrument package. Several club members have built some new RDF equipment to test out, so be sure and come to see some of these in action. Also, bring your own direction-finding gear and come prepared to track down the elusive "fox".
