The next LARG Club meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. on November 18, 2000, in the Conference-Training Room of the Leesburg Police Station on Plaza Street. The facility is located on Plaza Street between East Market Street and Edwards Ferry Road. Talk-In is on 147.480 MHz. You can join other LARG members for breakfast (~7:30) before the meeting at the Bob Evans Restaurant located Leesburg Corner Shopping Center.

November meeting plans - We will discuss the successful LARG balloon launch of October 21 and will appoint a nominating committee for next year's club officers. Since this will be the last meeting in 2000, any other year-end club business will also be discussed. We'll also have a "show and tell" at this meeting to give hams a chance to show off some new (or old...) pieces of gear that they've recently acquired.

NOTE: There will no club meeting in December!! Instead, we will be having the 3rd Annual LARG Holiday Dinner. See the next page for details.

Contest Season - The winter months provide lots of domestic and DX contests to help hams work new states or countries for DXCC or WAS awards. Also, some of the contests have club categories so you can join other LARG members and compete as a club as well as individuals. Some contest dates to keep in mind in the next few months: Sweepstakes SSB, 11/18-19; CQ WW DX CW, 11/25-26; ARRL 10-meter contest, 12/9-10. For information on rules, times, club entries, etc., contact Norm, AI2C, or John, W4AU.

Club News - It's hard to recall Field Day almost 5 months ago on that hot June weekend, but the December QST has the results of the 2000 Field Day event. LARG's score put our club in the top 10%, but still in second place in Virginia behind the Roanoke ARC. Congratulations on a job well done, everyone!

It's been a while, but Denny, KF4TJI, and Carol, KF4TJJ, have returned from their camping / hiking tour of the western states. While traveling they kept in touch with LARG members back home on a 20 meter SSB schedule, which worked out very well. Gary, NC4S, also had a rig with him on a recent trip to South Carolina, but found it easier to work European DX than contact hams back in Loudoun County. Rumor has it that Mike, W0YR, is growing some steel and aluminum in his back yard, so we can expect some big signals from his QTH soon.

The Third Annual LARG Holiday Dinner is set for Thursday, December 7, 2000, at Johnson's Charcoal Beef House (401 East Market Street, Leesburg-at the southeast corner of business Rt. 7 and Catoctin Circle). Gather at 6:30 p.m. for cocktails (pay as you go) and socializing. Dinner begins at 7:00 p.m. There are two entree choices: T-bone steak or salmon steak. Cost per meal (including salad, baked potato, soda or iced tea with the meal, coffee or hot tea with dessert, and tip) is $22.00 per person. Forms will be available at the November meeting or you can fill out the one below and send it with a check (made payable to Carol Boehler) for the appropriate amount to: Carol L. Boehler 101 Masons Ln, SE; Leesburg, VA 20175. Please have your reservations to Carol by Thursday, November 30th.

Please print the name the way you want it on your place card and check the desired entree.
