NOTE - NEW MEETING LOCATION: The January 19, 2002, LARG meeting will be at 8:30 AM in the Leesburg Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 605 West Market Street. The church is located at the intersection of Market Street and Catoctin Circle on the west side of town. It is just east of the bypass. From the Bypass, take the Leesburg exit at the west end of town and the church is on the right just past the stoplight. Please enter through the door on the east side of the building. There are both steps and a ramp by the door.

December Club Meeting - About 30 LARGer's enjoyed the 4th Annual LARG Holiday Dinner at Johnson's House of Beef the evening of December 7. The food and companionship both were excellent and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. The highlight of the evening was Norm Styer, AI2C, receiving the Ham of the Year Award. Norm is certainly well-deserving of this honor as he has done a lot for and with the club over the years, including, but not limited to, activities with our balloon launches and Scouting events, advice as our resident DX and contesting guru, and LARG photographer and tireless keeper of the LARG website. Thank you, Norm!

January Club Meeting Plans - We will have the election of officers for 2002. A ballot with the nominating committee's recommendations and places for write-in candidates is attached to this letter. Bring your ballot to the meeting (don't worry; if you forget, we will have extra ballots available). We will appoint a chairman for 2002 Field Day activities; it is not to early to begin planning for this important club event. We will have reports from our repeater committee and from the public service committee on our activities at Leesburg First Night. Pay your 2002 club dues! Our Treasurer will be on duty to collect dues for next year; see the attached form for further information.

Contesting News - We had good participation in the ARRL 10-meter Contest last month; if you operated in this contest, be sure to send in your log to the ARRL by January 16, and don't forget to put down "Loudoun ARG" as your club. You need to enter the club name just like that, because this is how they have us listed in their club database. The weekend of January 12/13 is the CW part of the North American QSO Party contest. This contest gives you a great opportunity to work on your Worked All States (WAS) award. The exchange is your name and state. You can work the same station again on a different band, and multipliers are states, provinces, and North American countries. Contact John, W4AU, if you have any questions.

LARG Club News - Our deepest sympathies go out to Norm, AI2C, whose mother recently passed away. We wish Ray, K4AJA, a speedy recovery from his recent cataract surgery. Dave, KG4KZZ, is settling in to his new QTH. The big news here is that Dave has lots of room for HF antennas and no restrictive covenants! Let's welcome Temp, W4HZV, back to sunny Loudoun County after a longish sojourn in the frozen south. Charlie, K4LJH, is home, doing well and recuperating from his recent surgery. He has his "winter shack" in operation, so look for him on 40 CW in the mornings or on 2 meters.

Leesburg First Night -Mark, N3GMW, reports that we had good participation for providing communications for this event. Tom, WB3AKD, set up and operated Net Control from the Leesburg Today building. Others participating during the cold evening included: Pam, N3OPN; Jacob, KF4VLQ; Norm, AI2C; John, W4AU; Tom, NA4MA; Angi, KG4AVR; Mary, KF4UUY; Denny, KF4TJI; Fred, WB4AEJ; Buddy, KG4MGC; Paul, N4PD; Nancy, KE4RTP; and Brenda, Sam, and Keith Gillam.

Dues - It is that time of year again; your modest membership fees for 2002 are due! We still only charge $12.00 per year (that's only $1.00 per month, or about $0.03 per day...) for membership in the finest amateur radio club in western Loudoun County. The fee for additional family members is $1.00 per year per person. Checks should be made out to Loudoun Amateur Radio Group.

You can bring this form to the January meeting or mail it to our Treasurer: Tom Garasic, 2911 Rodgers Terrace, Haymarket, VA 20169.
