November / December Meeting News
Thanks to Nancy, KE4RTP, and Norm, AI2C, for arranging our Second Annual LARG Christmas Dinner, held at the Laurel Brigade; it was a great success! The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 1999 LARG "Ham of the Year" award to Gary, NC4S. All of the 20+ members and guest who attended enjoyed the evening and fellowship.
At the November meeting Paul, N4PD, announced that he was stepping down as the Chairman of the Training Committee after his third successful class had matriculated. If you are interested in taking over this position, please contact Paul.
January LARG Meeting Plans
The major activity for this first meeting of the new millennium will be election of officers for the year 2000. Our nominating committee has come up with the following slate: President Ray, K4AJA; Vice-President Dennis KF4TJI; Secretary Carol, KF4TJJ; Treasurer Tom, NA4MA. We will have ballots at the club meeting and, as always, write-in candidates will be acceptable for all the offices.
Following the January club meeting, there will be a get together at the home of Dennis, KF4TJI, and Carol, KF4TJJ, for those who ordered attenuator kits to get started assembling them. Please bring a soldering iron, needle-nose pliers and wire cutters, if you have them. We will have at least one 1/4" punch and Dremmel tool to work on the brass strips. Please read paragraphs two and three of the directions and have them completed. Directions will be given at the meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting and need directions or if you have any questions, give call Dennis or Carol at 777-9427.
Club News
Congratulations to our intrepid K4LRG 1999 Field Day crew! LARG really moved up in the 3A category standings this year. According to the results published in the December issue of QST, our club finished 28 out of 368 entries in that category; this puts us well into the top 10%. The Roanoke Amateur Radio Club squeezed us out of first place in the state of Virginia by only 10 points (thats only 5 CW QSOs). The Balloon committee has been active during the winter months, and our next launch date is scheduled for late April. Stay tuned for details. Under the able and then disabled leadership of Paul, N4PD, LARG again turned out in force to provide communications for Leesburg First Night celebrations. Our Communications Center was manned by Tom, WB3AKD, and Paulson. Standing out in the cold were Nancy, KE4RTP; Mary, KF4UUY; Bob, KF4VBM; Tom, NA4MA; Angie, KG4AVR; Mark, N3GMW; Norm, AI2C; John, W4AU; Dennis, KF4TJI; and Carol, KF4TJJ. Many thanks for a job well done!
Dues
It is that time of year again; your modest membership fees for 2000 are due! We still only charge $12.00 per year (that's only $1.00 per month, or about $0.03 per day) for membership in the finest amateur radio club in western Loudoun County. The fee for additional family members is $1.00 per year per person. You can bring this form to the January meeting or mail it to LARG, P. O. Box 1004, Purcellville, VA 20134. This form not only helps you to get your dues paid, but it also will let us update our membership data base so that we can provide you with a new membership list early in 2000. Our big expense is mailing out this newsletter and we need the $s to keep it going!
