GOOD NEWS FOR THE NEW YEAR - NEW MEETING PLACE OPEN!!

Our January 20th club meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the newly opened El Rancho Restaurant. The restaurant is in the small shopping center on the southwest corner of Business Route 7 (Main St.) and Maple Ave., the location of the only red light in Purcellville.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NOVEMBER/DECEMBER MEETING:

Even though the club was unable to meet in its permanent location for the November/December meeting, we had a good turnout at the Town of Hamilton's town office with coffee and donuts and lots of good fellowship. John, W3GOI, demonstrated the TR-LOG contest logging program and handed out diskettes with an older, free version of the program on them so that anyone who wanted a chance to try out the software could. I think that everyone was impressed with the program's capabilities. Charlie, K4LJH, brought along the beautifully made transmitter that he had built from the original 1929 Ross Hall design, using a Western Electric 211 in an Hartley oscillator circuit. Charlie has successfully used this transmitter in the Antique Wireless Association contest. We also nominated a slate of officers for next year, see below for details.

LARG participated in the annual Leesburg First Night New Year's Eve celebration again this year. Paul, N4PD, arranged the communications for the First Night organizers and acted as net control. LARG members: Nancy, KE4RTP, Dale, KD4LSL; Justin, KE4PCX; Tom, WB9RXJ; and John W3GOI, along with Gary, KD4SRX, from the Herndon Club helped out providing  communications between the First Night headquarters and the 19 event sites around Leesburg. Fortunately, the rain was light and all the volunteers got a chance not only to help out but to partake of the festivities. Thanks to N4PD for organizing this event for the club and for the good turnout.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR OUR JANUARY MEETING:

Highlights for our January meeting include election of officers for1996. The attached ballot may be returned at our January 20th meeting or mailed to our Club's P.O. Box; there is a provision for write-in nominations.

ICOM America has provided our club with a video tape, which describes their new line of amateur radio products and which introduces the new IC706 HF/6M/2M rig you may have heard about. By viewing this short video and then returning a short questionnaire we will be entered in a contest in which our club may win an IC706 radio. If time permits, we may also view a 15-minute video that Dale, KD4LSL, made of the weather balloon launch at the National Weather Service where we held our September club meeting.

NOTICE: Dues for 1996 are payable now - Send your check to the LARG mailing address or pay at the January meeting. Future newsletters will only be sent to paid-up club members, so make your membership current.
