July Club Meeting
(Balloon Launch...) News - Unless you have been out of town or are
completely cut off from email service, you are probably aware of the fact
that our July 20 "Sky-Eye-2X " launch was a tremendous success,
reaching about 110,000 feet before bursting and parachuting back to earth.
The balloon launch, flight, tracking, and recovery went very smoothly, and
the balloon committee is already planning a fall launch - stay tuned!
August Club
Meeting Plans - Julie, KG4RKI, will go over the
final plans for our participation in the upcoming Public
Service event, the American Red Cross - Reston Bike Club
Century Bike Ride Across Loudoun County. This event will take place
on August 25, and LARG is responsible for communications and will set up
four fixed sites, will operate from two Red Cross mobile units, and will
also have bicycle-mobile riders on the route. Contact Julie or Mark,
N3GMW , or visit the LARG website for more information or if you
want to help out during this event.
Field Day
2002 - The final results were computed and sent to the ARRL. We
made a total of 2464 valid QSO's, 1468 on CW and 996 on phone using K4LRG
for the main stations and KF4TJI for our GOTA operations. When combined with
our bonus points, the final score for LARG's 4A station on FD-2002
was 9064. Congratulations to everyone (all 52 members and
friends ) who contributed to this fine effort.
Club
News - LARG has been the beneficiary of some generous contributions
recently. First, LARG member, Paul, K4MSG, donated some
of his surplus equipment to the club. The coax cable and rope were welcome
additions to this year's and to future Field Day operations. The antennas
and various electronics were sold at the June club meeting and brought a
welcome influx of cash to the club coffers. Thanks, Paul... Also, the
Rust estate in Leesburg very generously donated a large
amount of miscellaneous radio equipment to the club; much of it left over
from commercial AM and FM operations of the previous owner. After a lot of
hard work by club members picking up the equipment (it filled a trailer and
a couple of pick-ups...), cleaning it up and pricing it, and transporting
it to the Berryville Hamfest, the club's treasury is now about $470 fatter.
Thanks for all the hard work, guys. We still have a lot left over, which
will go to other hamfests this fall... LARG members who recently upgraded
to Extra now have some new callsigns, too. Bill, ex-KG4OHE is now
WF1L, Larry, ex-KG4CGR is now K3HE, and Dale, ex-KG4OTI, is now K3CN.
Way to go! |
