NOTE: April Meeting Place

The LARG will hold its April 1999 monthly meeting at 8:30 AM on Saturday, April 17, 1999, in the Hamilton - Thompson Lodge in Purcellville, VA.

The Lodge is a yellow, wooden church building on the left (south) side of the street as you head west on Business Rt. 7 (Main Street) in Purcellville. It is located approximately halfway between the flashing yellow light in the center of town and the 7-11 Store at the western edge of town. The building has a sign in front and on the steeple is a large blue square and compass emblem. On-street parking is available on both sides of Main Street. LARGers who wish may meet others for breakfast in the Fran's Place on Main Street just east of the flashing light at 7:30 AM. Or a second option is Cate's Restaurant next to the 7-11 Store at the western edge of town. Parking is available at both places - use the Town Parking Lot near Fran's. Both places are within walking distance to the Lodge. Talk-In is on 147.480 MHz Simplex. This meeting place is sponsored by Paul, K4MSG.

The main topics for our April Meeting will be our upcoming balloon launch, scheduled for April 24; the preliminary results of the LARG participation in the Virginia QSO Party; a QSL-Card Exchange; posting of Your QTH on Our Loudoun Map; and a Mini-Hamfest with items that you bring valued at $25.00 or less.

The QSL Card Swap is for members to exchange QSL Cards for recent QSO's made with other LARG Members. There were a lot of them made in the recent Virginia QSO Party.

Bring the LAT - LONG of your QTH to the meeting. And be prepared to post your QTH on our LARG Loudoun Map. Bring all your little boat-anchors for the Mini-Hamfest. Paul - K4MSG says there will be table in the Break Area to display your items. Our meeting will be held in the Lodge's Meeting Room and our Mini- Hamfest will be held in the Break Room in the basement. Paul, K4MSG, will provide coffee.

Club News

What a tremendous turnout we had from LARG club members for the VA QSO Party!!! We are still tallying up the logs, but it is obvious that we have exceeded last year's club score of 277,000 by at least 100,000 points! Right now it looks like we will be submitting 27 logs for the club score; this total includes both fixed and mobile logs from some members. Next month's newsletter will include a rundown of all the scores. Thanks to all who participated and GREAT JOB EVERYONE! If you haven't already turned your scores in to either Norm, AI2C, John, W4AU, or Charlie, K4LJH, get that done as soon as possible; and remember: we need signed cover sheets for all your logs; i.e., if you worked mobile and fixed during the contest, you have to submit two separate logs, each with its own cover sheet.

Those who get their newsletters via the postal service will be getting a copy of the LARG membership list as it exists for April 1999. If you are getting the email version of the newsletter, you can pick up a copy of this list at the April club meeting.

And now a short note From Our President:

Our little Group is really stepping out! We should all feel very good about how our Group performed in the Virginia QSO Party. I really enjoyed hearing all the enthusiastic activity. A special thanks to all who went mobile throughout Northern Virginia. Whether we win or not, we all had a great time. The coming balloon launch, tracking and recovery operation is another great event for all. And please mark June 25-26 for Field Day and plan to participate. My thanks to all for helping in so many ways to make this a very exciting year. -- Best Regards, Norm.
