A meeting of the Loudoun Amateur Radio Group was held 5/17/03 in the fellowship hall of Leesburg's Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. President Larry McCaig, KC1YC, called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m. EDT. He led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The minutes of the April meeting were read, noting the need to add exact wording for the repeater motion. Approval was given pending that inclusion.
Larry introduced the other officers and committee chairs present and welcomed guests.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Training chairman Bill McCourt, WF1L, repoted on steady participation in the spring Technician course. Well-received was the video his home station by Dale Harrison, K3CN. Bill will post the syllabus for the fall General class on the web-site. Contact him if you would like to be an instructor.
Bill, WF1L, also reported on attending the last FAR meeting. Volunteers are still needed to assist with the fall-fest 9/6&7/03. The club now has a subscription to AutoCall.
Public Relations man Larry Hughes, K3HE, asked vbisitors how they had heard about the LARG meeting. Leesburg Today still listed the wrong meeting place; But Jay Pisula, no call yet, persisted in tracking us down. Larry is working with Monroe Vo-Tech for taping Field Day or a balloon launch, etc. He proposed a special events station: e.g. at Montecello on the 4th of July.
Field Day chairperson Buddy Brewer, K4CJB, was not in attendance since he, like several other LARGers, was attending the Dayton Hamvention. Tom Dawson, WB3AKD, brought a sign-up sheet for operating times for Field Day (Sat. & Sun. 6/28&29/03). Tom will be there with his VHF/UHF/satellite station. He asked for help in moving his trailers to the site that weekend.
Tom, WB3AKD, also reported that a high altitude weather balloon launch with ATV and GPS components was scheduled for Saturday, 5/24/03. Additional support is always needed. Check the reflector for up-to-the-minute news. Weather might cause the mission to be postponed.
In general announcements Larry, KC1YC, noted that Roanoke Section Public Relations coordinator Randy Sly, K4SLY, is seeking volunteers for a speakers bureau. Up-coming hamfests include Manassas on Sunday 6/1/03 (VA QSO Party results announced) and Howard Co. on Sunday 5/25.
Denny Boehler, KF4TJI, again asked anyone interested in helping with communications for the USTA Trail Ride (near Middleburg) also scheduled for Saturday 5/24/03, to contact him.
Temp Titus, W4HZV, asked a question about the 2M Echo Link system; a discussion regarding access to this ensued.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol L. Boehler, KF4TJJ
Secretary
