LARG Monthly Meeting
March 9, 2013

The meeting was called to order by President Henry Weidman, K2BFY, at 8:34 am, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Leesburg Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 605 West Market Street, Leesburg, VA. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag to the United States Of America was recited. New Members - Visitors:: All interested in Amateur Radio are welcome to attend our meetings, activities and on-the-air radio nets. You may wish to join via this eMail message our Yahoo eMail QST de K4LRG eReflector and stay abreast of amateur radio happenings in Northern Virginia. There were no guests or visitors introduced.

Paul, N4PD, asked that someone be appointed to manage the sign in roster since there was confusion this morning. Norm - AI2C said he takes care of the sign in roster and John - W5ODJ suggested he develop an electronic WI-FI sign in process.

John Unger, W4AU, presented a nice briefing on the Virginia QSO Party. When available, it will be posted to K4LRG.ORG and linked here. Many members indicated that they plan to participate. KF4TJI, Denny, will be mobile on 80, 40, 20, 2-Meters and 440-MHz., KE4S, Dave, indicated he will also try a mobile operation. Gary, NC4S, indicated he and others plan to operate from K4VV. John encouraged everyone to get on the air; he talked about the best times and bands. He also asked that we read the rules and that everyone send in their scores and indicate "Loudoun ARG" as their club. Several "Trade Secrets of the Virginia QSO Party" were discussed. Finally, he asked that everyone send an information copy of their claimed score to him.

Henry Weidman, K2BFY, presented a briefing on scoring your VA QSO Party log and how to make and submit a Cabrillo Log File. More information about the VA QSO Party is available here:

FD Committee Meeting, Chris, W3CUM announced that:

          O On Monday, the Big Board goes live for Station Captains.
          O The next Monday for everyone to sign up.

February 2013 Secretary's Report prepared by John, W5ODJ was approved.

March 2013 Treasurer's Report prepared by Jay, KI4TXP, was approved as posted on K4LRG.ORG.

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW BUSINESS:

Gary, NC4S, discussed the condition of the tower trailer and indicated new tires were needed. It was agreed that Gary proceed with obtaining new tires before Field Day.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 0955 hours.

A reminder to all about Holy Trinity's inclement weather policy: if Loudoun County Schools are closed (or would be if it were a school day), all activities at the church are cancelled - this includes outside groups. This policy allows for parking lot clearing so snow is not packed down; and it is also a safety issue.
