Loudoun Amateur Radio Group
The March 17, 2001 meeting of the Loudoun Amateur Radio Group was held at Bethany United Methodist Church in Purcellville, VA. We thank Paul Bock, K4MSG, for arranging the meeting place and preparing coffee for the group.
President Dennis Boehler, KF4TJI, called the meeting to order at 8:37 a.m. He welcomed visitors and had all introduce themselves before leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of the February meeting were approved as read. Thank you to Nancy Dluehosh, KE4RTP, for recording these in the secretary's absence.
Tom Garasic, NA4MA, presented the treasurer's report, which was approved as given.
Committee Reports
Balloon Committee - In the absence of chairman Tom Dawson, WB3AKD (travelling to his starting point for the VA QSO Party), John Unger, W4AU, reported that the microprocessor and other assorted goodies (probably worth at least $500-$1000) awarded from the contest Tom entered on behalf of LARG had arrived. Norm Styer, AI2C, purchased a 1000 gram balloon at $88 and presented the bill to Tom, NA4MA, for payment. A spring launch date is being planned. Watch the website and reflector for more info on the balloon project.
Contest Committee - John, W4AU, presented information, charts and forms for the weekend's VA QSO Party and a pep talk for LARG's participation. Several members were not in attendance at the meeting as they were either on their way to starting points or in other ways getting ready for the contest. Logs and signed summary sheets should be turned in to John (for club entry) by early April.
There were no reports from these committees: Emergency Service (Eric Werner, KD5CTJ), Field Day (Gary Quinn, NC4S), Public Service (still in need of a chairperson) and Training (Bill Buchholz, K8SYH).
Website - Norm, AI2C, reminded the group to click on PRIME TIME if anyone wants to see what's new with LARG. Denny, KF4TJI, will be updating the roster over the next few weeks.
Old Business
Paul Dluehosh, N4PD, encouraged other LARG members to attend the Leesburg First Night Committee meeting on Wednesday 3/28. Talk to Paul if you can participate.
There are a few floppy disks with the Field Day TR log program available for practice. See John, Norm or Paul if you are interested in borrowing one of these.

New Business
Denny reported a request for help with communications for the May 26 USTA Trail Ride near Middleburg. Talk to him if you are interested in helping with this.
Denny again encouraged participation in the VA QSO Party this weekend! He asked for a volunteer to run the club's Sunday night net (since it is likely we will not be in a location from which to do this). Ray suggested cancelling the net since the contest runs until 9:00 p.m. EST. Others felt a contest debriefing would be in order; Paul, N4PD, volunteered to lead the net 3/18/01. John suggested the club sponsor a plaque for this contest. Concensus was in favor of doing so, but perhaps for next year. John will contact SPARC to see what is needed.
Dale Cabaniss, KD4LSL, is requesting help with a radio demonstration for a Boy Scout Camporee on Saturday April 21st. Norm will organize the set-up and on- and off-site volunteers. Talk to Norm if you can help.
Bob Bee, W4POF, asked the whereabouts of the map with member locations marked on it. Norm has this at his home.
Paul, N4PD, reminded all of the 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening 10 M (28.050) CW net. Perhaps a reminder on the website and/or reflector would be beneficial.
Tom, NA4MA, reported on a notice from organizers of the Antietam Hamfest to be held in Hagerstown, MD on May 6, 2001. Any club providing help with the event will be given a free inside table. Talk to Tom if you are interested.
A reminder was made for the Greater Baltimore Hamfest at Timonium, MD on March 31 and April 1, 2001.
Larry McCaig, KC1YC, brought in the package awarded for our balloon endeavors to display to the club. Norm photographed the equipment for posting on the website.
Dennis again thanked Paul, K4MSG, for arranging the meeting site. He reminded all that the rest of the year's regular 3rd Saturday meetings would be held at the Leesburg Public Safety Building (police station) on Plaza Street.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol L. Boehler,
