Gary Quinn - NC4S

Captain, Station #4

Station #5 was 'ALL CW' - no mics in the house. It consisted of Gary's Ten-Tec Omni VI, his laptop computer with TRLog, and the LARG Tower Trailer with Gary's Cushcraft A4S 4-element tri-band yagi, an A4S by The station was powered by 12-volt batteries. A solar-powered battery system was also used by this station to claim the 100-point bonus for natural powered operation. Please note that the transmitter system was all battery powered including the laptop used to send CW and log; as someone said, "the big 'stupid' monitor was for show." Other operators on this station included Bill Buchholz - K8SYH, Bill Frisbie - W3EMH, and Tom Garasic - NA4MA.

The Rates At Station #5

The first hour is always good on 20-Meters CW and as usual everyone winds up there for the last several hours. The Saturday night sunset rates to the west are also good place to be. This year the total was 562 good QSOs as compared to 617 last year. The storm delay accounts for much of the difference. Gary reported having the 'Rate Meter' on TRLog up above 100 several times.

The Solar Powered Battery System

Paul Dluehosh - N4PD wonders whether we'll get enough sunlight to run a 100-watts on 20-Meters CW.
