A SPECTIAL MEETING FOR OCTOBER
New Time And New Place!!!
     Weather Balloon Launch. Temp, W4HZV
, has made arrangements for a special presentation for our October meeting. This month!s meeting will be held on at 9:00 AM at the National Weather Service Facility ( see map and directions Gn the back side of this newsletter). Temp has received permission for our group to use the facilities (which include a conference room for our business meeting) and to witness a high altitude balloon launch immediately following. The National Weather Service release two weather balloons daily to map upper atmospheric conditions. The instrument package called a radiosonde transmits a series of tones which are decoded by ground instrumentation into pressure, temperature, and humidity data and used in weather forecasting.

Skywarn Presentation
Immediately following our business meeting, personnel from the Weather Service 'Skywarn' program hold a discussion on the program and its importance to the forecast office and community during severe weather.

Saturday's itinerary:

9:00 AM Business Meeting
9:30 AM Skywarn discussion
10:00 AM Radiosonde Launch

A special thanks to John, W3GOI, for making the arrangements for our September meeting to be held at the Goose Creek Meeting house in Lincoln, VA. Due to the fire at the Tex-Mex restaurant we were without a suitable location for our meeting. John quickly responded and within days had an alternative location for us.

We are still in search of a permanent location for our meetings. Several locations are under consideration and will be discussed at our October meeting at the Weather Service. If you know of any location which is suitable please let us know.

Due to the postage expenses of our monthly newsletter and our limited treasury, we will be trimming our mailing list. In the future we will only be sending newsletters to members who have been contributing to our cause by paying their $12.00 annual dues. We currently have 50 hams on our roster, of which 25 have paid dues. Plans are to mail a monthly newsletter to active members and local A.R.R.L. officials, and once or twice a year have a large mailing to announce special events (Field Day, etc.) to all on our current roster.
