ANOTHER FIELD DAY HAS COME AND GONE!

The LARG had another extremely successful Field Day outing the weekend of June 24. Everyone who participated thought that it was "the best ever". Certainly the weather cooperated: our only problem was a brief thunder shower about 9:30 Saturday night that closed down operations for about 45 minutes. Our 3A (three HF rigs) Field Day station worked out very well; we were able to use all three radios with a minimum of interference, and were on the air for 66 out of the possible 72 hours of operating time for the three stations. The G5RV antennas performed very well, but we already have plans to add more antennas for next year's Field Day. We made almost 1000 QSO's, and combined with our bonus points, our score for Field Day is almost 5000 points! Thanks to Jason, KE4GUK, and Gary, NC4S for helping with the organization and also for Gary for the use of his snappy callsign, for CW, especially.

MEETING TIME CHANGE

Please remember that our meeting time has changed; our new meeting time is 8:00 AM.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JUNE MEETING:

Our June meeting was taken up with our final Field Day plans, but aspecial highlight was the presence of John Kanode, N4MM, who presented that club with is ARRL affiliation charter and filled us in on the most recent happenings in the ARRL organization. It was a pleasure to have John with us.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR OUR JULY MEETING:

We will briefly present the results of our Field Day operations and bring club members up to date on the progress of our balloon launching project. But the main item of interest will be a Fox Hunt, which is designed to test our balloon recovery skills. Please bring any VHF (2-meter) RDF equipment that you may have and join in the fun. We plan to have the Fox Hunt after our business meeting and breakfast.

PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS, Request for Volunteers

John Unger is seeking communications help with the Morvan Park Mountain Bike race on August 12. We will need about five volunteers to provide communications for liaison and emergencies for about 4 hours starting at 10:00 a.m. Two or three of the sites are not accessible by car, so you will have to walk or ride your mountain bike!
